“I knew I wanted to be in the military one way or another, I just didn’t know what that was going to look like,” said Decker, 21, a motor transport operator with 1067th Composite Truck Company, 228th Motor Transport Battalion, 213th Regional Support Group.
Decker considered ROTC and active duty, but her recruiter said the National Guard will pay for college while she attends. She is currently a secondary history education major at Shippensburg University and a history buff who grew up doing Civil War reenactments.
Decker has not yet deployed since enlisting in 2021 but wants to. She advised others who are thinking of enlisting to join, volunteer for as much as you can, be on time and be present.
