A unitary medium-range ballistic missile target launches from the Pacific missile range facility and flies northwest toward a broad ocean area of the Pacific Ocean. The guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG-70), equipped with the second-generation Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense weapon system, used a launch-on-remote doctrine to engage the target with a Standard Missile-3 (SM-3) block IA guided missile.
