The U.S. Navy launches an Polaris A3TA missile from the submerged USS Robert E. Lee (SSBN 601 - Blue) at 12:33 p.m. on Nov. 20, 1978, during Demonstration and Shakedown Operation 85 (DASO-83). This was the final U.S. Polaris A3TA DASO launch. The Polaris A3 included significantly more advancements than A2 did over the A1 model. In fact, the A3 was about an 85 percent new design.
