The U.S. Navy launches an Polaris A3T missile from the submerged USS Thomas A. Edison (SSBN 610) at the Eastern Test Range at 11 a.m. on April 12, 1975, during Demonstration and Shakedown Operation 79 (DASO-79). The Polaris A3 included significantly more advancements than A2 did over the A1 model. In fact, the A3 was about an 85 percent new design.
