B-52B (52-0008) makes its 1,000 flight. Originally used as a test aircraft, it was modified as an X-15 mothership. It subsequently carried a variety of experiments, including the heavy weight lifting bodies and the X-43A. It was retired on December 17, 2004, after nearly 50 years of flight operations.
