Today is Purple Heart Day, a day we honor the brave men and women who have been wounded or made the ultimate service to our nation. The Purple Heart is America’s oldest medal and has been presented to more than 1.8 million service members since its creation in 1782. While the eligibility to receive the award has evolved throughout the years, it continues to be a symbol of honor, heroism ad patriotism.
