Construction is about 32% complete at WSLP contract 101a. Horizontal strip drains have been connected to vertical wick drains, and the proper cover (i.e., either sand near the centerline or clay near the berm) over the drains is in place. As the earthen embankment is constructed, the highly compressible upper foundation material will continue to consolidate and the excess pore pressure in this material will be drained from this material by the vertical wick drains and then by the horizontal strip drains and then emptied into the drainage canal.
