A rescue swimmer from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City is lowered on to the back section of a nacelle—a container used for aircraft parts—during a search and rescue exercise off the Virginia coast. The exercise allowed the swimmer to board onto the wind turbine and there coordinate with crew from a local electric company. The goals of the training are to identify challenges, understand limitations, and develop solutions to enhance search and rescue and safety at sea. In the distance, the Cutter SEAHAWK provides a safety zone. US Coast Guard Art Program 2024 Collection, Object Id # 202408, "Wind turbine rescue training," Don Hatcher, gouache, 11 x 14 inches
