A’ali’i, an indigenous Hawaiian plant, grows near the mountainside at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (JBPHH), Naval Magazine Lualualei Branch in Nanakuli, Hawaii. The species is one of the few native Hawaiian plants that can endure fires. The JBPHH natural resource team manages the protection of the plant along with the state Department of Land and Natural Resources to ensure this species does not go extinct.
