Capt. John King, from Swartz Creek, Mich., and Spc. Kazan Tamer, who is from Patterson, N.J., stand with Mariam and her mother, April 3, at the terminal in the Baghdad International Airport shortly before their flight to Amman, Jordan. After receiving treatment in Jordan, Mariam will fly to the United States for reconstructive surgery. King serves as a physician's assistant with the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Multi-National Division – Baghdad. Tamer is an infantryman on the 1-28 Inf. Regt. personal security detachment.
