David Lavender, a supervisor and biologist for the Fort Stewart Fish and Wildlife Branch, holds a female red-cockaded woodpecker after a successful capture at Fort Stewart, Georgia, Dec. 5, 2023. A total of six red-cockaded woodpeckers were collected from Fort Stewart for translocation to Sprewell Bluff Wildlife Management Area in order to grow the refuge's population of red-cockaded woodpeckers.
