The Iraqi air force at New Al Muthana is trained by U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the Coalition Air Force Transition Team. CFATT's mission is to train, advise, and assist the Iraqi air force using embedded Military Transition Teams to support the progressive transition of counter-insurgency air operations to the government of Iraq. In support of Iraq's national security strategy, CAFTT assists the MoD and IqAF to define future roles and missions and to develop current IqAF capabilities in Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, battlefield mobility, and airbase operations.
