“My father, David Jakubek, served as a submarine officer in the 1980s-90s, and I was always amazed at the technology and impressive capabilities that submarines possessed. The long deployments were difficult, but I was always proud of my dad, and he inspired me to serve as well and join through the Navy’s Health Professions Scholarship Program. Things came full circle for me when I had the chance to serve as the Undersea Medical Officer for Submarine Group 10 and I had the opportunity to earn my own pair of “dolphins” when I completed the requirements to become a qualified Submarine Medical Officer.”
