Meet Staff Sgt. Anita Gorden, a medical logistics specialist assigned to 129th Area Support Medical Company. She is currently in Romania for annual training in support of Defender Europe 23, but this time annual training is bittersweet – Gorden will soon retire from the Alabama National Guard.
“In June, I will have thirty-two years in the Alabama National Guard,” she said. “I joined when I was eighteen, right out of high school, in the Alabama buddy platoon. It was a plan where you could take a buddy and enlist together and go to basic together.”
For her last annual training, Gorden has been able to put all her effort into her job. When she arrived in Romania for annual training, she had to sort through all the medical supplies and make sure all sections had the supplies they needed to obtain mission success. Because she is in a support role, she does not work directly with our Romanian counterparts but sees the benefits of working alongside them.
“I’ve been in their presence and company, and thus far, they appear very friendly. They’re willing to share their information and knowledge and compare theirs to ours and their procedures and what they do,” said Gorden. (U.S. Army photo by Staff Sgt. Laura Torres)
