Army Spc. Douglas Rachau, water purification specialists, 401st Quartermaster Detachment, Lock Haven, Pa., grabs a water hose to position into a basement Nov. 7 at the Redfern Housing complex, Rockaway, N.Y. The unit is utilizing large pumps capable of pumping 600 gallons per minute in areas most effected by Hurricane Sandy. Once the water is removed, necessary work will begin to restore utilities to the complex. The unit performed water removal operations despite severe weather conditions to support of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, state, local and city officials.
