Michael Gorman, the South Dakota National Guard adjutant general, met with U.S. Ambassador Lisa Bobbie Schreiber Hughes and Suriname Minister of Defense Ivan Fernald as well as Surinamers from the countries business, education, tourism, and media organizations March 15-18 to officially establish a partnership with the state of South Dakota. The 10-member National Guard delegation, led by Gorman, supported the State Partnership Program between Suriname and South Dakota that will begin with strengthening relationships between businesses, educators, military leaders, media professionals, state government and other professional and civic organizations.
