Detailed image of the Horsehead Nebula, also known as Barnard 33, taken by the Hubble Space Telescope HST Wide Field Planetary Camera 2 WFPC2 in year 2001 to celebrate the orbiting observatory's 11th anniversary. The Horsehead is silhouetted against the bright nebula, IC 434. Image was composed by the Hubble Heritage Team which superimposed HST data onto ground-based data limited to small triangular regions around the outer edge of the image. Ground based image courtesy of Nigel A. Sharp NOAO/AURA/NFS taken at the 0.9 meter telescope on Kitt Peak.
