The Marines with the Marine Security Guard Detachment at U.S. Embassy Pristina, Kosovo, gathered at the President Ibrahim Rugova Monument in the capital city for a detachment photo in June. President Rugova is remembered as a non-violent advocate for the independence of Kosovo and served as president from 1992 until his death in 2006. His efforts led to Kosovo becoming recognized as a sovereign state after decades of rule within the Yugoslav empire. (U.S. Marine Corps courtesy photo)
