Petty Officer 1st Class Josh Miller (background), a reservist with the Navy’s Surge Maintenance program, and Ted Brooks with Maglogix Inc. run through a flood simulation aboard the Self Defense Test Ship Aug. 24 as part of the Repair Technology Exercise, or REPTX, at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD). In this simulation, an enemy torpedo causes a 12-inch diameter hole in the ship’s hull, and the opening must be quickly covered before the compartment fills with water. High-powered magnets provided by Brooks are used with straps to secure a trash can and a rubber pad in order to seal the hole. The test ship is an asset of NSWC PHD. Naval Sea Systems Command’s (NAVSEA) Naval Systems Engineering and Logistics Directorate Technology Office (NAVSEA 05T) is sponsoring REPTX 2022 and selected 65 technologies to participate. NSWC PHD is a field activity of NAVSEA and is located at Naval Base Ventura County in California.
