This mid-1950s photo shows the YRF-84F on the NACA ramp. The YRF-84F was a prototype of a photo reconnaissance aircraft. It was fitted with a new nose and swept wings from earlier versions of the F-84. A YRF-84F with Air Force serial number 51-1828 was delivered to the NACA unit at Edwards Air Force Base, the NACA High-Speed Flight Research Station (soon to be redesignated the NACA High-Speed Flight Station--HSFS), on April 27, 1954, and given the designation "NACA 154." For two years, the aircraft performed pitch-up research to gather data on a common problem with early swept-wing aircraft. It left the HSFS on Oct. 29, 1956. Today the successor to the HSFS is named the NASA Dryden Flight Research Center.
