THULE AIR BASE, Greenland – U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Daniel “DJ" Sattar, 821st Support Squadron air traffic controller, looks out from the air traffic control tower awaiting the arrival of an aircraft at Thule Air Base, Greenland, Aug. 9, 2022. Unlike other air traffic controller positions, the controllers who manage the Thule AB flight line must be both a certified tower controller and a radar controller. This means they control aircraft and vehicles on the airfield, a small portion of the surrounding airspace, and aircraft within a larger portion of airspace moving from one airport to another.
