Capt. Roxanne Pruitt-Kiser, Medical Department Activity - Alaska clinical social worker (left), places acupuncture needles into the right ear of Capt. Meagan Mahan, commander Bravo Company, 70th Brigade Engineer Battalion, during an AcuDetox demonstration September 15. The demonstration was given during a MEDDAC-AK Behavioral Health Open House to educate unit and battalion leaders on behavioral health services for both Soldiers and Family Members at Ft. Wainwright. AcuDetox is a standardized ear acupuncture and acupressure treatment involving the gentle placement of five needles into specific sites on each ear for a 30 to 45 minute session. Benefits can include decreased anxiety, better sleep, reduced cravings for alcohol and nicotine and relief from stress and trauma.
