In a training exercise, the crew of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Spar works in Port Clarence, Alaska, with the crew of the Canadian Coast Guard ship Sir Wilfred Laurier. The crews transfer a U.S. Coast Guard Vessel of Opportunity Skimming System (VOSS) between the two ships. VOSS equipment is used to remediate oil spills. Such exercises foster cooperative relationships which are critical to safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans.
