Just north of the Arizona-Utah border, Navajo Mountain overlooks Lake Powell in the Glen Canyon. On June 12, 2006, the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer modis.gsfc.nasa.gov (MODIS) on NASA's aqua.nasa.gov Aqua satellite observed a large fire on the mountain. The location in which the sensor detected actively burning fire is outlined in red. A column of smoke billows north.

This image is shown at MODIS' maximum spatial resolution (level of detail) of 250 meters per pixel. The large image shows a wider area at the same resolution. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at rapidfire.sci.gsfc.nasa.gov/subsets/?AERONET_Railroad_Valley additional resolutions.
