The P1127 KESTREL research aircraft was tested extensively at Langley to evaluate V/STOL handling qualities and the use of thrust vectoring as an aid in enhancing aircraft maneuverability. This aircraft was a forerunner of the Harrier aircraft currently in use by the U.S. Marines and other military services.
