U.S. Marine Corps Staff Sgt. Daniel M. Lopez, an ammunition chief with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit, poses for a photo after being recognized as the motivator of the week on Fort Pickett, Virginia, Oct. 7, 2021. Lopez was recognized for his successes in managing manpower changes in preparation for Operation Allies Welcome. He maintained accountability for more than 100 Marines, managed water distribution throughout Fort Pickett, set up tents for the medical screening process, and ensured service members had access to basic necessities.
“I am proud to be a part of this mission, supporting Operation Allies Welcome!” Lopez said. “I have been able to step outside my military occupational specialty and help ease and expedite our guest’s transition, from helping them feel welcomed by playing frisbee and soccer with the children of our Afghan guest, to assisting in basic life needs or delivering water, to setting up tents for comfortability, it feels great helping those in need.”
