JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-FORT SAM HOUSTON – (Oct. 1, 2021) Cmdr. Linda Dunn Smith, of Philadelphia, the executive officer of Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) San Antonio, was promoted to the rank of captain in the U.S. Navy by NAMRU San Antonio Commanding Officer Capt. Gerald DeLong during a ceremony held at the Tri-Service Research Laboratory. Smith is a 1996 graduate of Temple University and earned her Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from Columbia University in 2000. In 2007, she attained her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine. NAMRU San Antonio is one of the leading research and development laboratories for the U.S. Navy under the Department of Defense and is one of eight subordinate research commands in the global network of laboratories operating under the Naval Medical Research Center in Silver Spring, Md. Its mission is to conduct gap driven combat casualty care, craniofacial, and directed energy research to improve survival, operational readiness, and safety of DOD personnel engaged in routine and expeditionary operations.
