Rear Adm. William E. Landay III, Chief of Naval Research, presents the 2006 Vice Admiral Harold G. Bowen Award for Patented Inventions to Roger M. Crane, left, of the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, and Professor Colin P. Ratcliffe of the United States Naval Academy, for their patented invention of the "Nondestructive Method for Detecting Structural Anomalies in Composites," during a ceremony held at the Office of Naval Research in Arlington. The award is named in honor of the first Chief of Naval Research and recognizes inventions of great benefit to the Navy, which have been patented by current or former civilian or military Navy personnel.
