A C-130 Hercules from the Wyoming Air National Guard fires off flares during a training mission during Exercise Southern Strike 2021, April 25, 2021 at Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center. The flares are an aerial infrared countermeasure to counter incoming heat seeking surface-to-air or air-to-air missiles. More than 2,000 service members are participating in Southern Strike, which is an annual training exercise hosted by the Mississippi National Guard to increase combat readiness across all branches of the U.S. Military.
