Gabriel Maceda, material handler with NAVSUP FLC San Diego Site North Island, straps together containers of repair parts for the USS Champlain pack up kit (PUK), Dec. 16, 2020. Maceda is one of two material handlers responsible for the inventory, packing, and processing of nearly $25 million dollars of aviation assets for the Navy's Third Fleet. Throughout 2020, Maceda, Wheatley, and their supervisor, Oscar Alcas, processed 94 PUK requests in support of 62 aviation platforms. The COVID-19 pandemic initially caused an immediate decrease in the number of PUKs required for deployed naval vessels, but once ships began to ramp up operations, the North Island PUK team experienced a flood of short-fused PUK requests.
