Sticking it to you... Influenza Vaccinations from Naval Hospital Bremerton (NHB) will be available for all eligible family members of active duty and retired military beginning Dec. 13, 2020. This annual flu Shot Exercise (SHOTEX) will take place at the Branch Health Education Center (BHEC) on Naval Base Kitsap Bangor, Bldg. 2859, Thresher Avenue, starting on Sunday, December 13 and continuing until Saturday, December 19, 2020. For Saturday and Sunday, the hours will be from noon to 5 p.m. and Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Due to COVID-19, the SHOTEX will be modified from years’ past, with social distance protocols in place, such as cloth-face coverings mandatory and the possibility of waiting in vehicles until called. Commencing Dec. 7, 2020, the active duty only SHOTEX will be held at Branch Health Clinic Bangor. Dates are still to be determined for Branch Health Clinic Everett. The flu vaccination is a covered benefit and TRICARE will be directly billed if beneficiaries get vaccinated at any community outlet, such as the civilian pharmacies that accepts TRICARE. There is no out of pocket expense for the beneficiary. In conjunction with Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC), NHB leadership and public health emergency officers (PHEO) stress the need for getting the annual influenza vaccination, especially during the ongoing pandemic outbreak. “It’s important to take care of the one – influenza – before we have a vaccine to effectively take care of the other – COVID-19,” stressed Cmdr.
