The Wings of Destiny would like you to meet Sgt. Caleb Pelkey, a native of East Haven, CT, and a CH-47 Helicopter Repairer (15U) with B Co., 6-101 AVN, 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
The CH-47 helicopter repairer is primarily responsible for the maintenance of the CH-47 Helicopters (also known as the “Chinook”). With hundreds of Army missions depending on these helicopters, they must ensure that all of them are safe and ready to fly.
”I joined the Army in June of 2016 after my first son was born. I felt entering the Army was an excellent way to provide a life for my family as well as start a career.
What I enjoy most about my job is flying. Flying has allowed me to meet and work with people from all over the world.
I feel my job plays a significant role in the Army because of the versatility of the CH-47 Chinook. We can fly troops and cargo downrange or bring supplies and medical personnel out after natural disasters occur to help people and save lives.
The Army has helped me by making me a better leader and helping me to develop a practical work ethic.
As an NCO, my favorite part about being in the Army is working with my Soldiers, no doubt,” said Pelkey.
Pelkey hopes to attend Warrant Officer Candidate School and flight school to become a pilot.
During his free time, Pelkey enjoys weightlifting, boating, and fishing.
