200630-N-SW412-1001 VIRGINIA BEACH, VA (June 30, 2020) Construction Mechanic Second Class Jacob LeBlanc from Twin Falls, Idaho assigned to Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 202 on Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story receives the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal for his heroic actions in saving a boy’s life. LeBlanc was at home with his wife having lunch when he heard a knock at the door; standing in front of him was a 14 year old boy with two gunshot wounds to his chest. The 8th grader was walking home from his school nearby when the assault happened, he knocked on several doors before LeBlanc answered. LeBlanc immediately went into action by having him lie down on the ground and applying pressure to the boy’s chest. He assessed the boy by looking for any exit wounds and treated him for shock while asking his wife to call 911. Upon arrival, one of the paramedics told him if he hadn’t taken action, the boy’s life would have been lost. “I felt focused. We train on how to perform tactical combat casualty care in the field and even though the situation was a little different, I knew exactly what I needed to do. It was a horrific event but gratifying to know I aided to support his life.” said Leblanc. (U.S. Navy photo by Angela Lucero/Released)
