200611-N-AD499-1002 BANGOR, Wash. (June 11, 2020) Substation two on Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor stands ready after being brought fully online May 20. Substation two went down in a catastrophic event in 2010. This is the first time it’s been back online for more than nine years. The purpose of a substation is to “step down” high-voltage electricity from the transmission system to a lower voltage to be easily supplied to homes and businesses through distribution lines.
