United States Military Hospital-Kuwait (USMH-K) welcomes Radio Frequency Identification Detection System (RFID) to the operating room. Soldiers from the 411th Hospital Center, participate in a demonstration on the RFID system. This, first of its kind in the ARCENT area of operation, RFID system detects any retained sponges used during surgical procedures. This system uses a bed mat and a wand to detects sponges, using radio frequency tags attached to each sponge, ensuring no sentinel events involving retained surgical sponges occur during surgery.
