    Marine Rotational Force - Darwin

U.S. Marine Corps Cpl. Chris Gordiano, a supply clerk with Marine Rotational Force – Darwin, participates in the planning of MRF-D 20.2 at Larrakeyah Barracks in Darwin, Australia. A Merced, Calif., native, Gordiano is in charge of ordering all supplies needed in order to accomplish the mission.

“One of the reasons I joined the Marine Corps was to travel. I’ve been able to build friendships with people all over the world. It’s been an amazing experience to travel and experience so many different cultures. Growing up, I never thought I would have friends in Australia, or create memories with my buddies in Japan. The brotherhood is easily my favorite part of being a Marine.”

The U.S. and Australian governments decided in late March to delay the rotation due to restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. The decision to resume the deployment comes as the government of Australia is granting an exemption to current travel restrictions to allow the 2020 MRF-D rotation to proceed, based on Australia’s record to date in managing impacts from COVID-19 as well as strict adherence by deployed U.S. Marines to the mandatory 14-day quarantine and other requirements.
