This is a promotional/commemorative graphic celebrating the 112th Birthday of the Navy Nurse Corps, featuring Lt. Cmdr. Sondra Jolly from NMRTC Bremerton. The image includes a quote from Lt. Cmdr. Jolly about her appreciation for nurses and the significance of 2020 as the 'Year of the Nurse' during the COVID-19 pandemic. The graphic combines a photograph of the nurse with text elements, logos, and medical imagery.

Year of the Nurse... The Navy Nurse Corps birthday on May 13 recognizes 112 years of delivering patient-centered care from bed side to battle field.

The Nurse Corps anniversary annually follows the National Nurses Week, celebrated May 6 to May 12, which fittingly wraps up on the birthday of Florence Nightingale (1820-1910), the founder of modern nursing, with both noteworthy events recognized at Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command (NMRTC) Bremerton.

Then, as now, caring for the sick and injured, establishing sanitary methods, supporting operational readiness during the Crimean War (1853-56) are legacies established as nursing standards by Nightingale, and sustained commitments by the Nurse Corps against the pandemic outbreak.

Lt. Cmdr. Sondra Jolly and the other approx. 60 Nurse Corps, as well as 80 civilian nurses at NMRTC Bremerton, are proactively handling multiple assignment to screen, triage, and test for COVID-19, as well as continue daily needed support for acute-care patients ((U.S. Navy Graphic by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Ryan Riley/Released)
