1st Lt. Sam LaPorte (right) and Cpl. Kyle Daly stand in front of an osprey on Marine Corps Air Station Futenma, Okinawa, Japan, April 28, 2020. With gyms shutting down and large-scale training suspended for many Marines, units across the Marine Corps have found different ways to stay active. For Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 262, 1st Marine Aircraft Wing, this meant creating The Flying Tiger Running Challenge. Marines were challenged to run 75 miles in the month of April and those that complete the challenge will earn bragging rights and a t-shirt. LaPorte is the Marine that took the initiative to set this challenge up throughout the unit. He is currently the squadron assistant maintenance officer and material control officer for VMM-262, 1st MAW. Daly is currently the leader of the challenge clocking in over 200 miles ran a week before the final deadline. He hopes to set the example at the highest standard to motivate his peers to do the same. Daly, a southern California native, is a crew chief for VMM-262. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Lance Cpl.
