(April 17, 2020) Interior Communications Electrician Seaman Briona Charles, a native of Richmond, Va., performs a continuity check on a de-energized Improved Fresnel Lens Optical Landing System (IFLOLS) aboard Nimitz-class nuclear aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility (PSNS & IMF). The system provides a visual indicator to pilots of their aircraft’s position in relation to the proper guide slope, which is essential for safe landing. Carl Vinson has completed the dry docked portion of its scheduled maintenance and will complete the rest of the availability floating pierside in Bremerton, Wash.
