1st Lt. Hillary Whirle, 715th Military Police Company Commander, is currently activated with the Florida National Guard supporting the COVID19 testing at the Orange County Convention Center Community Based Testing Site. Outside the military, Whirle is a deputy with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office. Though it may not be the most traditional mission for Guardsmen, she says the opportunity to assist in providing a community benefit is special.
"It truly puts into reality our training. We understand that we work for the citizens for the state of Florida, however, if there isn't a hurricane we usually don't get the opportunity to really serve them," said Whirle. "It's unfortunate that we have to combat something like COVID-19, but it does give the soldiers who are supporting this mission a great sense of pride, me included."
