Chief petty officers from the U.S. Navy and the Japan
Maritime Self Defense Force (JMSDF) exchange a Christmas wreath and
kodomatsu, or pine gate, at Naval Air Facility Atsugi. Kodomatsu are
traditional Japanese decorations placed in front of homes and offices in
pairs around the New Year to welcome kami (spirits) that will bring
bountiful harvests and ancestral blessings in the New Year. (U.S. Navy photo by Mass Communication Specialist 1st Class Brian M. Wilbur)
