Family, friends, and survivors gather in remembrance for the servicemembers of Exercise Fortress Lightening at the Semper Fidelis Memorial Chapel of the National Museum of the Marine Corps, Oct. 20, 2019.
During this training exercise, 12 Marines and one Navy corpsman were rescued, and 24 tragically lost their lives as the CH53-D Super Stallion YF20 plummeted off a cliff and tumbled 400 feet into the vast unknown jungle below.
