For scale, two average-height people stand near four of the six 40-foot diameter fans in the 80-by-120-foot wind tunnels at the National Full-Scale Aerodynamic Complex facilities at Moffett Federal Airfield in California’s Silicon Valley in July. The U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Aviation & Missile Center’s Aviation Development Directorate-Ames is uniquely co-located with NASA’s Ames Research Center and NFAC. The CCDC AvMC ADD-Ames team also operates a 7-by-10 foot tunnel almost exclusively used in support of Army basic research efforts.
