U.S. Coast Guard Senior Chief Gerry Welton talks to Chris Gravener Jr. through Skype at an event on Coast Guard Base Boston Friday, September 20, 2019. Senior Chief Welton was driving his personal car while off-duty on April 5, 2019, when he noticed smoke coming from a car in Sandown, New Hampshire. The driver of the car was unconscious, and Senior Chief Welton pulled the man to safety through a broken window, rescuing him as the car became engulfed in flames. During the Skype call, Senior Chief Welton and Mr. Gravener were able to talk to each other for the first time since the accident. (U.S. Coast Guard photo by Petty Officer 3rd Class Zachary Hupp)
