Brazilian Marines mentor US Marines on water purification techniques

Brazilian Marine 2nd Sgt. Leonardo da Silva do Carmo, a water purification specialist, demonstrates techniques used to purity fresh water to U.S. Marines with Special Purpose Marine Air-Ground Task Force – Southern Command during UNITAS LX at Ilha do Governador, Aug. 20, 2019. Water purification cross training increases the capabilities and responsiveness to achieve interoperability between the militaries. UNITAS is the world's longest-running, annual exercise and brings together multinational forces from 11 countries to include Brazil, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay, Mexico, Great Britain and the United States. The exercise focuses in strengthening the existing regional partnerships and encourages establishing new relationships through the exchange of maritime mission-focused knowledge and expertise during multinational training operations. The task force is conducting training and engineering projects alongside partner nation military forces in Latin America and the Caribbean. The unit is also on standby to provide humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in the event of a hurricane or other emergencies in the region. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Cpl. Matthew Rosado)
