The American Flag is flown at half-staff between two steel beams at the Northwest Ohio 9/11 Memorial, located on the grounds of the Ohio National Guard’s 180th Fighter Wing. Uncovered from the rubble of the World Trade Centers following the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, these beams were donated to the memorial and positioned as a visual representation the World Trade Centers. Patriot Day occurs annually on September 11 in memory of all who lost their lives as a result of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. The flag of the United States is flown at half-staff at the White House and on all U.S. government buildings and establishments throughout the world. Additionally, a moment of silence is observed to correspond with the attacks, beginning at 8:46 a.m. the time the first plane, American Airlines Flight 11, struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
