U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Tyler L. Williams, of the 445th Maintenance Squadron, operates a tungsten inert gas welder at the metal technologies shop at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, August 4, 2019. Williams is repairing damaged metal by using high amperage electrical current and melted tungsten to fuse the broken steel pieces, essentially “gluing” the tough materials together. Gas tungsten arc welding, or GTAW, provides skilled 445th airmen with maximum control and efficiency, and the 445th MXS metal tech shop provides maintainers with many such tools needed to repair maintenance equipment and aircraft parts. The 445th Maintenance Squadron is a part of the 445th Maintenance Group, and along with the 445th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, they provide the support the 445th Airlift Wing needs to keep its planes safe and operational on the ground and in the sky.
