USS Wasp (LHD 1) Executive Officer Capt. Daniel Fillion meets with Puerto Cabezas Governor Reynaldo Francis during an initial damage assessment of the area two days after the landfall of Hurricane Felix. U.S. Southern Command diverted Wasp from an international maritime exercise in Panama to the coast of Nicaragua Sept. 5 to assist with disaster relief efforts in areas affected by Felix. Wasp is currently conducting visual inspection and documentation of the damage that resulted from the hurricane.
