Petty Officer 1st Class Joseph Hernandez and Petty Officer 2nd Class Javier Carpio, from the U.S. Coast Guard International Training Division, assists Honduran sailors and port authority personnel with repairing a Yamaha engine during outboard motor maintenance training. Task Group 40.9 is deployed under the operational control of U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command (NAVSO) for the Global Fleet Station (GFS) pilot deployment to the Caribbean Basin and Central America. The mission is to conduct a broad range of theater security cooperation activities with regional maritime services. This deployment is designed to validate the GFS concept for the Navy and support NAVSO objectives for its area of responsibility by enhancing cooperative partnerships with regional maritime services and improving operational readiness for the participating partner nations.
