Chief Personnel Specialist Edward Lopez, assigned to dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52), and other Sailors of Task Group 40.0, conduct a community relations project and distribute Project Handclasp materials such as toys, medical supplies, and new sewing machines, as well as putting together bikes for children, July 5. The community relations project helped to reinforce the efforts of bonding nations for the Partnership of the Americas (POA). POA supports the U.S. Navy's concept of a 1,000 ship Navy, which brings together maritime services to work toward common objectives of security and interoperability.
